Now let us consider how the little horn’s dominion came to an end.

                                                      AD538             1260 years              1798

                                                         !__________________________________!

When Pope Pius VI fell grievously ill in 1797, Napoleon gave orders that in the event of his death, no successor should be elected to his office, and that the Papacy should be discontinued.   The pope recovered, but when General Berthier entered Rome in February 1798 and proclaimed a republic, Pope Pius was taken captive to a French fortress.

All Europe thought this would be the end of the Papacy.  It is written of that time, “The Papacy was extinct.   Not a vestige of its existence remained;  and among all the Roman Catholic powers not a finger was stirred in its defence.  The Eternal City had no longer prince or pontiff;  its bishop was a dying captive in a foreign land;  and the decree was already announced that no successor would be allowed in its place.”
Rome and its Papal Rulers.  Rev George Trevor. Canon of York p440.

Of course, the Catholic Church did not die, however, it was a “deadly wound”, not simply because the pope had been taken captive, but Napoleon took possession of Rome and assumed government of the papal territory.   Later a decree was passed, formerly annexing the remaining papal territories to the empire.   In 1870, Italian troops took over the whole area, except the Vatican Palace.
(Pius IX refused to leave the palace, calling himself a ‘prisoner of the Vatican’ in protest.   This lasted until Mussolini)

The loss of the papal territory deprived the Papacy of its governing power, without which it was not a temporal State.  It is the union of Church and State that gives the Papal Church its authority.

As we progress through these booklets you will see more and more the work of the little horn.   God wants us to be absolutely certain we have the right identity.   After all, it is a serious charge, and I would not write it unless there was absolute evidence.

Some say the Catholic Church has changed, even giving an apology for the evils of the past.

But has it really changed?   Rome’s motto is the Latin SEMPER EADEM, which means, ‘Always the same’

Yes, there will be small changes.  In fact, minor changes have taken place, such as rescinding the rule of ‘no meat on Friday’, and ‘limbo does not exist’.   But according to the Bible, the aim of the Papacy will never change.

This is why it is important to believe the ancient prophets.  If they were truly inspired by God to reveal the truth, then we can be certain the Catholic Church will not change.

“The Roman Church now presents a fair front to the world, covering with apologies her record of horrible cruelties.  She has clothed herself in Christlike garments, but she is unchanged.  Every principle of the papacy that existed in past ages exists today.  The doctrines devised in the darkest ages are still held.  Let none deceive themselves…. Her spirit is no less cruel and despotic now than when she crushed out human liberty and slew the saints of the Most High.”
The Great Controversy p571.    (Note that this was written in 1884, long before the Pope had made any apologies)

Before this booklet concludes, there is another aspect of chapter 7 to consider.    It is a judgment scene.

Daniel said, “I beheld till the thrones were cast down (
actually meaning ‘to set’ or ‘to place’ in Hebrew), and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool:  his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire.

A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him:  the judgment was set, and the books were opened.”   Daniel 7:9.10

These verses show that a judgment is about to begin, but nothing in the chapter gives us a time when it is to take place.
(A later chapter gives more information on the timing)

“I saw in the night visions, and behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations and languages, should serve him;  his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”
Daniel 7:13.14.

This is a description of Jesus, using His favourite term for Himself on earth -- Son of man.   God has given Him the privilege of being the Judge of earth’s inhabitants, as the Bible says, “The Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son.”
John 5:22.

If Christ will one day be our Judge, we need to become His friend now.    And we need to find out the standard by which He will judge us in the judgment.   God would not keep His standard secret and have us fail to obey through ignorance.

Speaking of His return Jesus says, “Behold, I come quickly and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”
Revelation 22:12.

Does this mean the judgment will be over when Jesus comes back?   Rewards are not given before a judgment and verdict have taken place!    If this is so, it is even more urgent we learn more about the final judgment.

You see, all the Bible prophecies are at the end of their predictions.    Do you sense the shortness of time?

There is much still to learn.

No.3.

Let us begin immediately.

“I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the root: and behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.”
Daniel 7:8.

This part of the prophecy is entirely new, and you are going to have to stay alert because there are many details.   Startling things will be revealed.

In the previous studies, horns were identified to represent kingdoms, power and authority.   The LITTLE HORN is also a kingdom, but a small one.

The same information is repeated with one extra point.

“And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows.”
Daniel 7:20.

Did you notice it?

Yes, the horn was “more stout” than the other nations.   The Hebrew word for stout is ‘rab’.   It is also translated captain, chief, lord, master, and is one of the words used for an elder in the Hebrew faith.
(Other words are Raboni and Rabbi)

It is used to mean great for many things, such as great multitude, great person or people, great goodness, anger, sins, etc.   It is used to describe the “great sea” in Daniel 7:2 – the rab sea.  It is used for Nebuchadnezzar’s great
(rab) image in Daniel 2:31, and also to describe Belshazzar’s rab feast.  Daniel 5:2.  (Other Hebrew words are used for great as well)

It is interesting that the Hebrew for “very great” words spoken by the little horn is rabrab words.

Thus we see that the little horn is greater than the other kingdoms of Europe.   It becomes the captain, chief, lord, master over these nations, uprooting three of them.

“And the ten horns out of this kingdom
(of Rome) are ten kings that shall arise (Europe);  and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and shall subdue three kings.”  Daniel 7:24.

Now to detail what we have learned.

  • The ten horns are already ruling autonomously when the little horn arises.
  • Three of the other nations are plucked up by the roots (or destroyed) by the little horn.
  • The little horn is greater than the other nations, even to be the chief or lord.
  • The little horn has eyes like a man, and a mouth speaking great words.

The words spoken could be great words of wisdom.  Or they could be amazing inventions.  But further prophetic evidence shows that they are “great words against the most High”.
Daniel 7:25.

Our picture of the little horn is becoming clearer.   It is a small nation in Europe that is ruled by a man who arrogantly speaks great words against God.

Daniel is “troubled” by what he sees, but is told these powers will not last forever.  “I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame.”
Daniel 7:11.   (The rest of the beasts have their day, but they too lose their dominion.   Daniel 7:12)

It is good to know that the “fourth beast” will be destroyed and when this happens, the horns will go too.

God encourages Daniel by telling him that “the saints of the most High shall take the kingdom and possess the kingdom for ever, even for ever and ever.”   Daniel 7:18.
(This does not mean the saints [God’s people on earth], will take over the kingdom of the little horn, but that they will, in the end, possess God’s kingdom)

“And the kingdom, and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him.”
Daniel 7:27.

(The wording “the people of the saints” is an unusual way of saying ‘saints, who are people’.  The word ‘saints’ in the Bible means Christians, assuming they are genuine and not pretenders.   Sadly many are ‘Christian’ in name only.  A Christian is like Jesus, kind, loving, and obedient to God’s Word.  If not, he or she is a fake, and will end up in the fire with the beast and the horns)

Look at the basic chart, combining Daniel 2 and Daniel 7.

Dan 2       Babylon     M-Persia     Greece      Rome        E U R O P E            God’s Kingdom

Dan 7       Babylon     M-Persia     Greece      Rome        Little Horn             God’s Kingdom
                                                                                               E  U  R  O  P  E

We must always keep in mind that God wins the great controversy.   And if we are of the ‘people of the saints’ we will inherit His eternal kingdom.

Now to continue identifying the little horn.

“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws;  and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.”
Daniel 7:25.

This verse is full of information, and a code that must be decoded twice.   Let us take each point separately.

  • GREAT WORDS AGAINST THE MOST HIGH.

Words against God are called blasphemy.

At this point we do not know what kind of blasphemy it is, as there is more than one way to blaspheme God.    One is to speak as an atheist, denying God’s existence and speaking against Him.    Another one is to claim to be God and to do what only God can do, such as forgive sins.   A third is to take His name in vain.   Sadly many people do this in normal conversation.

(Some use holy words in euphemism, that is to abbreviate or disguise the word, such as ‘Go---‘, or ‘gosh’, ‘Chri—‘, ‘crikey’.   There are many.    This breaks the third commandment which says, “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain;  for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”  Exodus 20:7)

  • WEAR OUT THE SAINTS OF THE MOST HIGH.

This is another unusual term, but it is stated a little clearer in another verse.  “… and the same horn made war with  the saints and prevailed against them.”
Daniel 7:21.  The term understood for war against Christians is persecution, something taking place in many countries of the world today.

  • THINK TO CHANGE TIMES AND LAWS.

As the little horn is a nation in its own right, we assume these are not its own laws, but ones he does not have the right to change.   Obviously he does not simply think to change them or we would know nothing about it.   The Douay Bible says of this activity, “he will think himself able to change times and laws”.   And again, he must do it, but without the appropriate authority.

John Knox, the Presbyterian reformer, translated this verse as follows, “He shall insult the most High;  he shall torment-wear out the holy ones of the most High;  and he shall attempt to change the calendar and the ordinance.”
Daniel 7:25. John Knox translation.

Could the ‘times and laws” be God’s calendar and holy ordinances?     Or perhaps God’s laws relating to time?    Maybe both.

  • GIVEN INTO HIS HAND TIME, TIMES, DIVIDING OF TIME

Now this is really in code isn’t it?

The Bible mentions this same code three times, and another three times in different terms.    In Daniel it is stated twice, the second time showing that the third time is a “half”.
Daniel 12:7.

This is confirmed in Revelation.  “And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, times and half a time, from the face of the serpent.”
Revelation 12:14.   (Notice the woman has wings for speed)

These verses speak of the same period of time, but from a different perspective.   In Daniel 7:25 we see the dominion of the little horn as the persecutor.
(In Revelation 12:14, we see the woman as the persecuted)

In Bible prophecy there are two WOMEN in code, one pure and one corrupt.   The pure woman refers to God’s faithful people, His true church.  God says, “I have likened the daughter of Zion
(God’s people) to a comely and delicate woman.”  Jeremiah 6:2.   “…I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.”   2 Corinthians 11:2.    The corrupt woman, called in Revelation 17:1, “the great whore”, represents a corrupt church.

In Revelation chapter 12, the pure woman
(God’s faithful church) is seen fleeing from the DRAGON.   This is another code word, but it is identified in the same chapter.  “And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world.”  Revelation 12:9.    It is not the devil himself who puts the woman to flight, but the little horn as revealed in Daniel 7.   The devil always works through people to achieve his ends.

Notice now another verse in this same chapter of Revelation.   “And the woman fled into the wilderness where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.”
Revelation 12:6.  (A score is twenty)

Here is our answer.    It might not appear to decipher the code words, but it does, in part.    A normal Jewish month was 30 days, according to the luni-solar calendar they used, making a year 360 days.
(30 x 12 = 360)      (Luni – Lunar – Moon)

These two verses in Revelation parallel each other as you will see.   The following mathematics will make it clear.

                                                      ‘a time’  =  1 year                        360 days

                                                    ‘2 times’  =  2 years                      720 days

                                                 ‘½  a time’  =  ½ year                       180 days

                                                                                                        ____________

                                                                                                         1260 days
Simple isn’t it?

However, this is still partially coded.   In Bible prophecy, a
DAY REPRESENTS A YEAR.   This is another code.

There are two main Bible verses that reveal this part of the code.   Moses is speaking to Israel, “After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.”
Numbers 14:34.   (Moses had sent twelve spies into the promised land to report its prosperity to Israel, but ten only saw the hardships.  Israel complained bitterly, and God punished them with forty years wandering, until all the adult generation had died in the wilderness)

Another experience relates to Ezekiel who was to enact a prophecy to Israel by lying on his side in public view for so many days.   God told him, “I have appointed thee each day for a year.”  Ezekiel 4:6.    Thus, at the word of two witnesses, God has established a Biblical rule for prophecy.

This means that the 1260 days are equal to 1260 years.   It is for this period of time that the little horn would dominate and persecute God’s faithful people.

Let us go through the identification marks again.

  • The little horn is a small nation.
  • It arose out of the fourth beast (Rome), but after it had broken up into ten the nations of Europe.
  • It arose in Europe.
  • It was different from the other nations of Europe, as was the fourth beast different from the previous ones.
  • It is greater, stronger, chief over the other nations.
  • It conquers three other nations, uprooting them completely.   History tells us these were the Heruli (AD493), the Vandals (AD534), and the Ostrogoths  (AD538).
  • It speaks blasphemies against God.
  • It persecutes Christians for over twelve hundred years.
  • It changes times and laws without due authority.
  • Its dominion is 1260 years.

You need to ask yourself two questions:

          (a) What nation was able to wage war over three nations and gain the victory during the                       fifth and sixth century?

           (b) What nation in Europe persecuted Christians for over a thousand years?

If you and I were together right now and I asked these two questions, I would wait for your answer.    If you did not give me an answer I would ask you to have a guess.

Almost everyone replies,

It looks like the Catholic Church.’

Would you have given that answer?

You can’t believe it?

It is rather a shock, but remember, the Bible is speaking of the nation and its leaders and not the dear people in the pews.

A number of Catholic people have said,  I always thought there was something wrong.’   A few become angry, either with the one who presents the study, or with the Catholic Church.   One man responded, ‘I feel cheated.  To think I have been loyal all these years and have been deceived.’

Yes, it is devastating.

Cardinal Newman, once an Anglican, but converted to the Catholic Church wrote against a Protestant article on the Antichrist.   He said, “We observe that the essence of the doctrine that there is ‘one only Catholic and Apostolic Church’ lies in this:  -- that there is on earth a representative of our absent Lord…. a visible body with invisible privileges.  All its subordinate characteristics flow from this description.

Does it impose a creed, or impose rites and ceremonies, or change ordinances, or remit and retain sins, or rebuke and punish, or accept offerings, or send out ministers, or invest its ministers with authority, or accept of reverence and devotion in their persons?  All this is because it is Christ’s visible presence.  It stands for Christ….   All the offices, names, honours, powers which it claims depend upon the determination of the simple question:

Has Christ, or has He not, left a representative behind Him?   Now, if He has, all is easy and intelligible….”
History Unveiling Prophecy. H Grattan Guinness. p291. 1905.

The author suggests that if Christ has not left a visible representative in the Pope, then “he professes to take his place without warrant.”

Newman’s concluding remark is, “He who speaks for Christ must either be His true ambassador, or Antichrist;  and nothing but Antichrist can he be if appointed ambassador there is none…. There is no medium between a Vice-Christ and Antichrist.”
Ibid p291.292.

Please note that Cardinal Newman was a Catholic at the time he wrote this, and in the statement he confirms the very deeds of the little horn Antichrist – impose rites and ordinances, or change ordinances.     He also mentioned -- remit or retain sins.   This is a claim to be God, who only can forgive sins.
(Remember, this is one of the definitions of blasphemy.   Luke 5:20-25)

This is very serious and you must weigh the evidence.

Let us think about the dominion of the Roman Catholic Church.   It originally arose from the witness of an apostle of Christ.    Some believe it was Peter, others Paul.   At that time the converts were genuine Christians, however, as time progressed, the bishops began to speak with more authority than they had a right to speak.   Gradually new converts joined the church who were still pagan in heart, and they brought with them some of their pagan beliefs.   Instead of barring them from entry, the church compromised and changed its own teachings to accommodate them.

Little by little the church in Rome gained authority, especially when the Emperor Constantine became a Catholic.  He claimed to have seen a vision of a cross, but it was not the cross of Christ.  His life testifies that his heart was still pagan.   He joined for the sake of the empire, and not for his soul.    However,  his influence gave much to the church and it continued to gain power.

In AD325, the emperor called an ecumenical council at Nice for the purpose of putting down the Arians.   These were Christians who protested against the Trinity God adopted by Rome.
(The Council of Nicaea (Nicea) is a very important council for the Catholic Church.   The doctrine of the Trinity was first confirmed there, and Easter Sunday placed in the church calendar)

The council was successful in adopting a creed that separated the Roman Church from the Arians, after which Arius and a number of other priests were banished from their parishes.   In later years, the church waged war against three nations who stood for the Arian belief -- the Heruli, the Vandals and the Ostrogoths.

(Although the Council of Nicaea banished Arius and the priests who followed his teachings, it did not solve the problem.    Whole nations believed that God had a begotten Son in His own image, and that Christ was not co-eternal with the Father as taught by the Catholic Church.   This is a big subject, too big for this booklet, but it is taken up on another website -- www.GodhasaSon.com )

When the third nation was conquered in AD 538, the 1260-year dominion of the Roman Antichrist began.

Five years earlier
(AD 533), the Emperor Justinian issued a letter making the Pope of Rome the ‘Head of all bishops, and the true and effective corrector of heretics’.  He also conferred upon him the title Pontifex Maximus.   The letter, called the Code of Justinian, gave the Pope official recognition by the civil authority, and the title, Pontifex Maximus, united the Church directly to the religion of the pagan State.

It was when the third Arian nation was conquered that these titles became fully operative to persecute those who refused to submit to the Church of Rome.

The historian says of Justinian, “His military achievements decided the course of the history of Italy, and affected the development of Western Europe…. And his ecclesiastical authority influenced the distant future of Christendom.”
History of the Later Roman Empire. J.B. Bury. Trinity College. Dublin. Vol 1 pp351-3.  1889.     (There are other events that gave the Catholic Church its authority;  these are taken up on another website -- www.nicaeaandtheworld.com )

Like Constantine, Justinian wanted a united Christendom, as it was better for the kingdom to have a unified church, rather than scattered believers of different faiths around the world.

When the third horn was routed, persecution officially began, growing in intensity as the years progressed.   This 1260-year dominion was a horrific time for Christians, and it is estimated that 50,000,000 martyrs perished for their faith at the hand of the little horn papal power.
(Many historians give 100,000,000)

This period is called the Middle Ages, but also the Dark Ages, a time when the Bible was chained to church pulpits, and to own one meant death.   Protestants
(as they were called) were hunted down and killed in cold blood.   In later years they suffered the instruments of torture in the dungeons of the Inquisition -- the rack, the thumb screws, the iron maiden -- and finally a public burning.   (All who protested against the little horn were Protest-ants, although the term was not coined until later centuries, and then it was given by their enemies)

Of the persecution and burning of heretics, Cardinal Bellarmine said, “Experience teaches that there is no other remedy;  for the church has proceeded by slow steps, and tried all remedies.  First, she only excommunicated.  Then she added a fine of money, and afterwards exile.   Lastly she was compelled to come to the punishment of death…. If you shut them in prison, or send them into exile, they corrupt those near to them with their words, and those at a distance with their books.”
Romanism and the Reformation   H Grattan Guinness. p36.37.

A Roman Catholic writer stated, “Daniel and St John foretold that Satan’s delegate would use horrid cruelties, and inundate Babylon with the blood of Christ’s martyrs;  and the pope, to prove that he was not that delegate, did use horrible cruelties, and caused Rome to overflow with the purest of Christian blood.”
Professor Rossetti.  Quoted in Ibid. p37(This is a strange way of stating his convictions)

Speaking of the Inquisition, the historian writes, “Language has no powers to express the atrocities that took place at the capture of the different towns.  Ecclesiastical vengeance rioted in luxury.  The evil was steeped in the blood of men, the air polluted by their burning.  From the reek of murdered women, mutilated children, and ruined cities, the Inquisition, that infernal institution, arose.  Its protectors intended it not only to put an end to public teaching, but even to private thought.”
History of the Intellectual Development of Europe. John W. Draper. Vol II. p62. 1876.

Did you know the Inquisition still exists?

The present pope, when Cardinal Ratzinger, was the head of this ‘holy office’ for twenty-four years prior to becoming Benedict XVI.   During that time he wrote the latest 800-page Catholic Catechism.   He also updated Canon Law
(the law of the Catholic Church), showing clearly that disobedience to its dogmas is anathema (a curse), and those who disobey are called heretics.   Some years ago, the ‘Holy Office of the Inquisition’ changed its name to the ‘Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith’.

It is the old history books that reveal the true character of the Papacy, and although they are meticulously being destroyed, the truth can not be silenced.    Here is a historian of 1883.

“THE PAPACY – A MIXTURE OF CONTRADICTIONS.  Who can measure it, or analyze it, or comprehend it?   The weapons of reason appear to fall impotent before its haughty dogmatism.   Genius cannot reconcile its inconsistencies.

Serenely it sits, unmoved amid all the aggressions of human thought and all the triumphs of modern science.  It is both lofty and degraded;  simple, yet worldly wise; humble, yet scornful and proud;  washing beggars’ feet, yet imposing commands on the potentates of earth;  benignant, yet severe on all who rebel;  here clothed in rags, and there revelling in palaces;  supported by charities, yet feasting the princes of the earth;  assuming the title of ‘servant of the servants of God’, yet arrogating the highest seat among worldly dignitaries.

Was there ever such a contradiction?  Was there ever such a mystery, so occult are its arts, so subtle its policy, so plausible its pretensions, so certain its shafts?   How imposing the words of paternal benediction!   How grand the liturgy brought down from ages of faith!  How absorbed with beatific devotion appears to be the worshipper at its consecrated altars?   How ravishing the music and the chants of grand ceremonials!   How typical the churches and consecrated monuments of the passion of Christ!

Everywhere you see the great emblem of our redemption – on the loftiest pinnacle of the medieval cathedral; on the dresses of the priests, over the gorgeous altars, in the ceremony of the mass, in the baptismal rite, in the paintings of the side chapels;  everywhere are rites and emblems betokening maceration, grief, sacrifice, penitence, the humiliation of humanity before the awful power of divine Omnipotence, whose personality and moral government no Catholic dares openly to deny.”
Beacon Lights of History. John Lord. LL.D. Vol V p99-101. 1882.

You may not have observed the splendour of high mass in a Catholic cathedral, but you probably saw the pomp and ceremony of John Paul II’s funeral or the inauguration of Benedict XVI.

“Many Protestants suppose that the Catholic religion is unattractive and that its worship is a dull, meaningless round of ceremony.   Here they are mistaken.  While Romanism is based upon deception, it is not a coarse and clumsy imposture.  The religious service of the Roman Church is a most impressive ceremonial.

Its gorgeous display and solemn rites fascinate the senses of the people and silence the voice of reason and of conscience.  The eye is charmed.  Magnificent churches, imposing processions, golden altars,  jewelled shrines, choice paintings, and exquisite sculpture appeal to the love of beauty.  The ear also is captivated.  The music is unsurpassed.  The rich notes of the deep-toned organ, blending with the melody of many voices as it swells through the lofty domes and pillared aisles of her grand  cathedrals,  cannot  fail  to impress them with awe and reverence.”
The Great Controversy E.G. White. p566. 1911.  First written in 1884 as Spirit of Prophecy Vol 1 p383.384.

The author quoted prior to the above continues.   “And yet, of what crimes and abominations has not this government been accused?  If we go back to darker ages, and accept what history records, what wars has not this church encouraged, what discords has she not incited, what superstitions has she not endorsed, what pride has she not arrogated, what cruelties has she not inflicted, what countries has she not robbed, what hardships has she not imposed, what deceptions has she not used, what avenues of thought has she not guarded with flaming sword, what truth has she not perverted, what goodness has she not mocked and persecuted?

Ah, interrogate the Albigenses, the Waldenses, the lives of Jerome of Prague, of Huss of Savonaroia, of Cranmer, of  Coligny, of Galileo;  interrogate the martyrs of the Thirty Years’ War, and those who were slain by the dragonnaires of Louis XIV, those who fell by the hand of Alva and Charles IX;  go to Smithfield, and Paris on Saint Bartholomew;  think of Gunpowder Plots and Inquisitions, and Jesuit intrigues and Dominican tortures, of which history accuses the papal church:  barbaries worse than those of savages, inflicted at the command of the ministers of a gospel of love!”
Beacon Lights of History. Vol V p99-102.

You might wonder why so much on the atrocities of the little horn -- because it must sink deep into our consciousness that Rome is not a Christian church;  it masquerades as one.

Thousands of men and women hate Christianity simply because they know what this church has done to innocent people in the past.   Millions of Jewish people were murdered in the name of Christ.    It is a documented fact that Hitler and his associates of the Third Reich were Roman Catholics who performed their atrocities with sanction of the church.
